Event Details

Most of us view conflict as negative, a perception that impacts on how we manage it as individuals and organizations. The Aiki approach offers a new metaphor and learning tool to transform how we deal with conflict, pressure, and other difficult situations.

This is an interactive, hands-on program. We will use principles and techniques from Aikido, the Japanese martial art, and immerse ourselves in the educational experience. We will meet in a traditional Aikido "dojo" (place of practice), learn how to blend with and re-direct an attack – both physically and verbally – and practice applying what we learn to everyday conflict.

Purpose: To provide perspective, tools, and training in self-management and conflict transformation.

Objectives:

  • Examine beliefs about conflict that hold you back.
  • Appreciate the relationship between how you deal with attack on the mat and how you react to pressure and conflict in daily life.
  • Choose to remain calm and increase options in difficult situations.
  • Acknowledge emotional energy and direct it in positive ways.
  • Develop skills to communicate more effectively under pressure.

Begin to find the hidden gifts in your daily conflicts. Join Judy Ringer and David Halprin on Oct. 27, and learn to direct the energy of conflict instead of reacting to it.

Lunch and Unlikely Teachers text included
Group Discounts available

Wear sweats or other comfortable clothing. Since we will be meeting in a matted space, you will have the opportunity to practice physical Aikido, if you choose. However, physical strength and/or previous martial arts experience are not required. All abilities are welcome and will benefit from the learning environment.

Comments from past participants:

"This presentation was the best approach to conflict that I have ever experienced."

"Wonderful concepts and demonstrations!"
